Tonight, Connor and I started a new craft project together. There’s an incredible store downtown that specializes in stained glass and other glass art, such as mosaics and jewelry. During the summer, they offer classes for craft-illiterate people like me and their children! We went to our very first class in stained glass tonight. Connor picked out the design and we numbered our templates.
Doesn’t he look THRILLED?!?!
Then, I cut apart the template into smaller pieces with a really neat pair of grooved scissors. Connor chose different colored panes of glass for the project. Next, we traced the different pieces onto the glass, which the teacher cut for us. Apparently, we don’t get to cut the glass during the very first glass 🙁 Connor and I did get to file the edges on the individual pieces to make sure they were smooth.
We then placed our pieces back on the template to get a rough idea of the finished product. What do you think?
Next up, the instructor showed me how to line each glass piece with copper foil and Connor how to smooth the foil with a special tool to get rid of any wrinkles.
We took the project home to finish putting the foil on the pieces. It was supposed to take the whole week, but of course, I had to finish it tonight!
Our next class is supposed to be next Monday, but Connor has Vacation Bible School, so we’re going to have to postpone it a week. I don’t know what I’m going to do until the next time! I’m having a ball! I think Connor is, too.
Connor’s going to make a leather bracelet there tomorrow afternoon. I’ll post a picture of that project.
I think I might try mosaics, next.
Until next time…
