In January 2010, after much, much convincing, I sang my first solo in church. I’ve always loved to sing, but not in front of ANYONE… not even my husband, son or other family members. I guess my choir director (and his lovely wife) saw something in me and encouraged me to get up in front of the congregation, hold a microphone and sing by myself. I’ve discovered that I really enjoy it and hope to continue doing it.
This Easter, I was asked to sing the solo part in a song called “O Great Redeemer”. It’s a little out of my comfort zone with a lot of ad-libbing, but I was able to do it and our choir is singing it again this Sunday morning. The lyrics really touched me. Here they are:
“O Great Redeemer”
by David Moffitt and Steven Hinkle
“Eternal King, enthroned in light,
the heavens bow at your command.
You rule the world in power and might,
yet grieve the fallen state of man.
Immortal hands becoming flesh
reach out to pay the sinner’s price.
To bear the punishment of death,
one pure atoning sacrifice.
O Great Redeemer,
O, O the power of Your name.
O Mighty Warrior, Strong to Save,
worthy the Lamb for sinners slain.
O great Redeemer.
The mystery of grace unfolds.
The blood of Christ now covers us.
And darkness trembles to behold
the Risen King, victorious!
O Great Redeemer,
O, O the power of Your name.
O Mighty Warrior, Strong to Save,
worthy the Lamb for sinners slain.
O Great Redeemer.
[Repeat chorus]”
My prayer is that lives will be reached for Christ through my voice. I thank God for the ability and desire to sing. And, I know all things are possible through Him, even the courage to stand in front of a sanctuary full of people and sing by myself!
Until next time…Happy Blogging!
