Remember back to your young, whipper-snapper days… did your parents leave money under your pillow in exchange for a recently lost tooth?
My mom certainly did, we even had this special blue pillow my sister & I shared to put the tooth in to make sure it didn’t get lost in the bed (or played with by a cat).
I’ve used it with Connor & I’m probably going to ship it East to my sister to use with her boys.
Now that we’ve taken a trip down memory lane… it’s time for me to tell you what today is…
It’s National Tooth Fairy Day!
According to punchbowl.com, the legend of the tooth fairy started hundreds of years ago from superstitious roots, as teeth were hidden from those attempting to practice VOODOO.  WHAT!?!?!
HolidayInsights.com says the fairy herself was created to help ease children’s fears of losing their teeth. This experience was so traumatic for me as a kid that I would literally wait until my loose tooth fell out on its own to avoid the pain/blood situation.  One time, I waited so long that the tooth actually came out when I bit into a banana.  My gums had even healed over the spot left behind, no blood!  Now that’s the way to lose a tooth!
Teeth generally begin to come in around the age of 6 or 7 months and start falling out as new ones begin to push them out around 6 years old.  By the time a child reaches 13, they should have lost all their baby teeth.
Connor lost his first tooth at age 7, I believe.  He had just turned 8 in the picture above.  Now, at 11 1/2, he’s losing his molars.  He’s not scared of a little blood either.  He’s even pulled a couple teeth out all by himself!
Such a tough cookie!
Happy National Tooth Fairy Day!
Until next time…
