Getting Crafty…

I spent Labor Day weekend with my family back in Arkansas. It was the first time I’d been home since Mother’s Day and Connor’s first time since Easter. Needless to say, it was a very long overdue trip! (Especially since I promised my mother before we moved that we’d be back at least every other month to visit!)

While at the family farm, I decided to work on a project I’d seen on Pinterest, Etsy and other places on the internet.

Here’s what we made…

I purchased most of this at Wal-Mart. The modge-podge, paint and brushes were left over from my “HOGS” letter project from a couple months ago.

I started out on my computer to print out the words and Razorback. I very carefully cut out the letters and picture. Then, I painted the wooden plaque white with a red edge. Next, I modge-podged the letters and graphic to the dried wood.

Now, for the wreath part.

The 14” wreath came wrapped in plastic. I decided to leave that on to protect my ribbons from the slightly prickly wreath and to make it semi-waterproof (plus, it was easier to squish the tied ribbons together on the slick, plastic surface).

I cut all the ribbon into 16” strips…then we started tying! Actually, I cut, mom tied.

She made simple double knots, squishing each piece together and staggering the ties.

We did this all the way around until it was nice and full and we ran out of ribbon. We topped it off with a big bow my mother helped us make.

Now, back to the plaque… I had to go to my super creative Dad to figure out how to attach it to the wreath. He ended up just drilling holes in the top and using ordinary wire… how simple! I added some beads to make it sparkly.
