After two weekends… our bedroom has finally gone from this…
…to this…
Let me take you back…
Here was one of the main problems with our old bed…
Macy loved standing up on the foot board, which caused this…
The hubs and I decided that we needed a bigger mattress, so we just decided to create our own bed.
It started with this great, inexpensive universal metal bed frame…
Rob had some help putting it together, but otherwise it wasn’t too difficult.
Later that evening (after 9:00!) our new king-sized mattress arrived.
I found this great quilt set at Wal-Mart for around $25.  The shams were sold separately at about $7 a piece.  We don’t like to spend too much money on our bed coverings, because they get ruined quickly by two rambunctious bull terriers.
The door I purchased at Home Depot for less than $50 came in the next day and we got started with the installation.  First, Rob secured two braces into the wall studs to hold the door.
Next, L-brackets were secured into the back of the door, top and bottom, to mount it to the wooden braces above.
Once the door was in place, this is what we had…
We took a break for a week, then came back yesterday with a shelf board, side boards, crown moulding and corner pieces.
We started with the shelf board.
Once that was in place, Rob hammered in some wood to cover the openings on the sides of the door.
Next, we nailed in one corner piece…
…then the moulding, then the other corner.
Construction complete!  Just needs paint…
And here is the final product!
I just love it!  It looks and feels super expensive, but it wasn’t!
In total, we probably spent less than $200.
Our next DIY bedroom project… cornice boards for our naked windows!!
Until next time…
