(If you need help deciphering the title of this post… it’s “Pictures of The Day times 3”)

I’m finally home from my weekend in Arkansas.  It was such an eventful time with spotty internet access.  I posted Friday and Saturday, so here’s the rest starting with Sunday…

The Little Rock Marathon/Half Marathon/10k took place Sunday morning.  There were a couple new things this year that I didn’t really like.  Mainly… the “wave” starts.

Sunday1

Basically what that means is each participant is placed in a time group or “corral”.  “A Corral” being the first, fastest group, “B Corral” is the next fastest, etc.  I was in the “K Corral”, if that says anything about my speediness, or lack thereof.  At 8 am, the first group was allowed to start… a few minutes later the B corral went, then those in the C group and so on.  It was nearly an hour before the K Corral was allowed to cross the start line!  If we had started earlier than 9, we probably wouldn’t have been re-routed due to a possible severe thunderstorm that was headed our direction and I won’t even go into the controversy that was the confusion about whether the race was re-routed (which it was) or cancelled/called off (which it wasn’t, at least not by the race directors).  Maybe I’ll go into it a little… all I’ll say about it is this… in the future, listen to the communication from the actual Race Directors, not the media, aid station workers, or even police officers, they’re not always correct. The notification I got, which was directly from the Race Directors, said re-route, nothing about cancellation. The End.

Anyway… after nearly 3 ½ hours in the rain, wind, steadily dropping temperatures and almost 1 full mile missed because of the re-route, I crossed the finish line, got my medal and headed to The Hop with my parents for this…

Sunday1.2

I can’t help it, it’s a tradition!  It was so incredibly delicious, as always!

And, check this out…

Sunday2

I have now done this half marathon 4 times and I’ve never been disappointed in the experience or in the bling!  I’m already planning for next year!

By the time we finally got back to my parent’s house following the race day festivities, the weather had gotten much worse.  One of my very best friends had invited me over for dinner and if she lived further away, I wouldn’t have gone.  When I left their house around 9 pm, I had about 3 inches of solid ice on my car!  Fortunately, I made it home safely.

This is what we woke up to the next morning…

Monday1

Monday2

Needless to say, I didn’t travel back to OKC like I had planned. The roads were just too treacherous.

Monday3

Monday was spent reading, napping, watching TV, and working on this…

Tuesday2

…and playing with these…

Tuesday1

Daisy is on the left.  He (yes, he’s a boy named Daisy…don’t ask) is 14 years old.  Claire is the Cameo Persian on the right.  She will be 18 in November.  She has a breathing problem and the vet told us about 5 or 6 years ago that she wouldn’t have a very long life.  I don’t think he was looking at the same cat.

Claire

Finally, on Tuesday morning, the ice had cleared enough for me to head home.  I was so glad to reach my destination!  It was a long drive to culminate a long weekend.  I had a great time and I can’t wait to do it again next year!  I may have to build another medal display…

Medal

…this one is getting kind of full.

And finally… today, this happened…

Wednesday

One word… wow.

Until next time…Happy Blogging!
