…to northwest Arkansas and Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area.

We traveled to Ft. Smith last night for Connor to spend Spring Break with his dad and instead of driving the 3+ hours back home, we decided to spend the night in Van Buren and go hiking today.  One of our favorite areas to explore is northwest Arkansas.  We went to Devils Den about this time last year and hiked in the snow! This weekend, we chose Arkansas’ largest state park near the town of Rogers. Covering more than 12,000 acres that includes Beaver Lake, this park spans across three counties.

After a quick stop at the Visitors Center, we headed for the Bashore Ridge Loop, which is a “Hidden Diversity Multi-Use Trail” that is a 3 mile loop with a 1/2 mile spur connecting it to the trail head off Piney Road.  This trail is easy to moderate in terrain with a few inclines. Hike2The clearly marked path is wonderfully windy and beautiful!  I’m sure it is even prettier and more majestic in the spring and fall seasons with all the foliage. Hike9Hike3Hike4The trail leads to a scenic overlook of gorgeous Beaver Lake.  There were several fishermen out today. Hike1Hike6We stayed at this spot for several minutes and enjoyed a delicious snack of Oreo cookies, Pistachios and apples…what a good combination! The bullies love apples!Hike7We hiked for almost 2 and a half hours and it was glorious!  The Lord provided us with perfect weather and amazing scenery!  Hike8Following our hike, we headed back to Oklahoma City via Tulsa.  We were looking for a specific BBQ restaurant to stop for dinner, but ended up here instead…PIzza                                                             Rob ate a supreme style thin crust pizza, which he wasn’t too impressed with and I had this…Hike10I’ve never seen a pepperoni calzone quite like this before!  It was delicious!  The pies took forever and weren’t cheap, Rob said he actually would have preferred a $5 Little Caesar’s pizza over his choice!  The service wasn’t great either.  The wait staff was a bunch of teenagers that seemed to want to be anywhere else than the pizza place.  I didn’t see an adult anywhere!  Our waitress was very lucky she got a tip.  All she did was stand around talking to her co-workers about prom.

All-in-all, it was a wonderful Saturday!  Connor comes home next weekend… it’s going to be a very long week without him.  Our new sectional should arrive on Monday, so that’s something to look forward to in the meantime.
