…to Northwest Oklahoma and two great state parks!

The weather today was cold and dreary… perfect for hiking!

First off, Gloss Mountain State Park.  

This mountainous area about 2 hours from OKC, is comprised of several flat top mesas. 

The trail to the top was pretty easy…

…that is, if you like very steep, very treacherous metal stairs.  Can you see them snaking up the middle of the picture above?  The dogs didn’t like those too much!

The mountain gets its name from this sparkly stuff that is all over it…

It’s selenite, which is a variety of the mineral gypsom.

Once we were finished exploring the mesas, we decided to do something we haven’t done in a long time…

That’s a cache… the “Horseshoe Bend” cache to be exact.  Thanks to my trusty Geocaching app on my iPhone, Connor and I found it with ease!

Next on our adventure…

This park was absolutely beautiful, but not very dog friendly… 

because of these…

They’re pretty, but very prickly and can be found everywhere!!!

The first part of the trail led us to this…

That is a waterfall coming out of the bottom of a rock!  This picture does not do it justice at all.  It was an amazing sight!

I think we ended up hiking more than 3 miles in this park alone. 

The sight above was in a section called “Rock Garden”.  I’m sure some campers stacked those up, but it looked cool nonetheless.
